Metro Underground Shop RS 2019 Submission

I put this scene together for the 2018 Search For A Star environment art contest.

The time period for the environment is between 1939 and 1945 which is the time period of WW2 the same period the game is set in. Achieving this time period in the environment was difficult but was achieved in various ways. I researched various object which would be thematically appropriate such as food (Pictured) and war Posters.

Creating a full set of new materials for the environment was a challenging task but overall I feel I learnt a lot about material creation and other various aspects such as:

• Vertex painting
• Tillable materials
• Decals
• RGB channels

Creating a full new texture library for this project was a new challenge I had not faced before but I was able to overcome this new challenge by learning and generating new skills in programs like Bitmap2Material and Substance Designer.

If I were to create this environment again I would definitely take more time overall on the concept stage of production as I feel this was my weakest aspect and if I did this I would be able to deliver an overall better quality product.  My strongest aspect of this project was my modelling and lighting and I feel these areas were where I excelled. One part of the project I would change if I could go back would be the door of the environment as I feel this was the poorest asset overall and would be my weakest link in the project overall. The skills I have gained over this project will be very beneficial to me in future projects as I learned a lot about retopology and particle effects and these skills will transfer into future projects and help me overall in my career. My final thoughts on the project are overall positive and I feel I was able to create my best piece of work so far which I can proudly display on my portfolio.
